In recycling, consistency is important – but achieving it is anything but simple. This is something our customer, Carmel Eco, knows very well. As Bazan group’s mechanical recycling division, they supply recycled raw materials to many in the plastics industry. To better understand the challenges involved, let’s take a closer look at a real-world example.
It’s common even for highly experienced recyclers to face challenges. One of Carmel Eco’s major customers – a large manufacturer of injection-molded consumer goods-produces a multi-part product. Each component of this product is made from a different grade of Carmel Eco’s recycled materials, on different machines, and on different days. In the past, when the final product was assembled, the parts didn’t match in color, leading to costly rejections and supply chain disruptions.
To ensure consistency, the customer requested a precise and uniform color match across all components, aligned with a predefined target set by both labs. Carmel Eco decided to look for a reliable, fast and accurate solution to the color variation challenge, as part of the company’s dedication to delivering high-quality recycled materials and maintaining strong customer relationships.
To tackle the challenge, Carmel Eco first turned to us, wishing to integrate the SpectroMetric system into their production line. SpectroMetric offers real-time, in-line color measurement and correction by altering the masterbatch dosage accordingly. Thanks to the self-calibration process, it can filter interferences and detect even minor color deviation (ΔE) of the end product relative to the standard, approved color.
